Mitch Dane/Sputnik Sound

I’ve really been enjoying working on Julianna Zobrist’s songs.  She came in last week for a few days and we did some pre-production/co-writing, and sang some scratch vocals.  Now, as she’s gone home for holidays, I get to create her tracks around the scratch vocals.  This is how we did her last record, and I absolutely love it.  I love the record, but I also love the process of being able to experiment and program without the fear of boring Julianna.  I go on some weird tangents, knowing they probably won’t work, but occasionally, I stumble on something really cool.  Her style is kinda quirky/synth/pop.  There are some similarities to Lady GaGa, and maybe Justin Timberlake, but it’s definitely Julianna’s personality!

I’m also in the process of bringing on a new staff member to Sputnik.  Joshua Niles, whom we call “Niles” as to avoid the confusion with the other Joshua.  Niles will be doing more of my assistant stuff, while Josh will continue being the studio tech, while branching out on his own a bit, doing freelance engineering and tech work.  I already miss him when he’s not around.
